Job Description:
Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Newark, Delaware is seeking a Music Director who can use their love and knowledge of sacred music to promote and enhance the spiritual life of our congregation. The position reports directly to the Senior Pastor and will be a critical part of the team that plans and leads the weekly worship service.
Details of Responsibilities:
Direct, guide, support and a_noemailpany, (on piano and/or_noemailan), the vocal choir, ensembles, and soloists for regular worship services as well as midweek and special services as applicable throughout the year.
Select anthems from our music library, and if needed, order new music for the choir, guest vocalists, and instrumentalists.
Work with the Treasurer to draft and follow a music budget.
Hire other musicians for special occasions in the church, when agreed upon by liturgical leadership.
Assist with direction and a_noemailpanying the handbell choir.
Be responsible for assuring the good working order of our musical equipment; work with appropriate parties to ensure_noemailan and piano are tuned and in good working order.
Encourage participation from the congregation to share their musical gifts.
Position will have first refusal for weddings and funerals, which is work you may do outside of normal duties/hours worked for the church. You may negotiate fees with the outside parties for these activities.
Desired Qualifications:
- Music degree, or equivalent experience, in vocal and keyboard skills
- Experience with Christian church music and choir leadership
- Strong team player who possesses a willingness to work with the rest of the church staff
