Overview:
As the title implies, the Assistant Pastor position is created to provide general assistance to the Senior Pastor in the wide variety of tasks and responsibilities needed to grow and shepherd the church. Over time, the expectation is that the church will grow, and when this occurs, this role will specialize to meet the updated needs of the church. The Assistant Pastor will report directly to the Senior Pastor and will be subject to all of the approved policies and procedures in the Staff Handbook, including quarterly performance evaluations. Even though this position bears some responsibility in virtually all areas of the overall church ministry and program, the following tasks and responsibilities give shape to the position's current priorities.
Music and Worship
Plan and lead meaningful, engaging worship experiences through the musical portion of the worship services.
Create worship presentations in ProPresenter for church services and youth services.
Oversee the worship technology (audio, visual, lighting, other) needs and operations of the church.
Recruit and coach instrumentalists to form a band to a_noemailpany the services.
Work with the Pastor to start a second weekly service.
Serve as a resource to volunteers to create and oversee a worship arts ministry to include dramas, visual arts, and as appropriate, choreography
Assist the Senior Pastor in doing all of the above for special off-campus services as Grace moves toward the multi-site vision.
Note: Grace's current weekly service is 80% contemporary 20% less contemporary. This individual will be asked to help us launch a second service that is fully contemporary.
Children and Youth
Share with the Senior Pastor the responsibility of discipling and teaching the young people of the church. This will involve cultivating and investing in mentor-type relationships with them and staying current on issues affecting children and teens in today's culture. It may also involve teaching midweek Bible study lessons and guiding small group discussions.
Plan and lead worship for youth events.
Take the lead on planning and directing youth trips for missions and summer camp.
Work with youth parents to develop a regular calendar of events.
Assist the Senior Pastor in recruiting, training, and overseeing youth ministry volunteers.
Help the Senior Pastor administer the midweek children's ministry (TeamKID, e.g.).
Administrative
Note: The church recently approved a staffing plan that is posted on our website under About Us. Until we fill the receptionist position, this individual will share the administrative load with the Senior Pastor.
Pastoral Care and Ministry
As needs arise, assist the Pastor in ministering to shut-ins, hospital patients, prospective church members, and others.
